Why convert GIF to PNG?
- Real transparency. PNG supports full alpha (smooth, gradient transparency); GIF only supports on/off.
- More colors. PNG isn't capped at 256 colors, so future edits won't be color-limited.
- Editability. PNG is the standard format for any further editing in Photoshop, Figma, or similar tools.
- Cleaner edges. PNG can preserve anti-aliased edges that look ragged in GIF.
What you should know
If your GIF is animated, the PNG will be the first frame only. Standard PNG doesn't support animation. (APNG does, but it's a niche format with limited support.)
PNG files are typically larger than GIF for flat-color images. For photographs, PNG is usually smaller and looks much better.
How it works
- Open the home page, drop your GIF in the box.
- Pick PNG from the dropdown.
- Hit Convert, download.
