Why convert PNG to GIF?
- Smaller file for flat graphics with few colors — logos, icons, line art.
- Compatibility with tools or platforms that only accept GIF.
- Animation prep — turn a sequence of PNG frames into individual GIFs before stitching them together.
What you should know
GIF is capped at 256 colors. For a flat-color PNG (a logo, a screenshot of a UI, line art) the result looks essentially identical and may be smaller. For a photographic PNG, expect banding — pick PNG → JPG or stay on PNG instead.
Transparency carries over — GIF supports binary (on/off) transparency, not the smooth alpha that PNG offers. Soft edges may look ragged.
How it works
- Open the home page, drop your PNG in the box.
- Pick GIF from the dropdown.
- Hit Convert, download.
FAQ
Will the GIF be animated? No — PNG is a single frame, so the GIF is too.
Will transparency be preserved? Mostly. GIF supports on/off transparency only, so soft alpha edges become hard edges.
Smaller or bigger? Usually smaller for flat graphics, larger for photos.
