Why convert PNG to JPG?

Note: any transparent areas in your PNG will become white in the JPG. If you need transparency, stay with PNG or try WebP.

How it works

  1. Open the converter. Go to the Formatly converter — no signup required.
  2. Drop your PNG files. Drag and drop one or more PNGs into the upload box (up to five files, 20 MB each).
  3. Choose JPG as the output. Pick JPG from the dropdown; we use a sensible default quality (around 85%) for most photographs.
  4. Convert and download. Click Convert; download links appear for each JPG as it finishes. Transparent areas in the original PNG become white.

FAQ

What happens to transparency when I convert PNG to JPG? Any transparent areas in your PNG become white in the JPG output, since JPG has no alpha channel. If you need to keep transparency, stay with PNG, or try WebP — both support an alpha channel and WebP compresses photographs nearly as well as JPG.

How much smaller will my files be after converting PNG to JPG? For photographs the difference is dramatic — typically 5 to 10 times smaller, sometimes more. For screenshots, line art, and graphics with flat colors the savings are smaller, and the JPG can look visibly worse than the PNG. Use JPG for photos, keep PNG for graphics.

Will the converter let me set a JPG quality level? Not in the current version — we use a sensible default (around 85% quality) that gives a good size-to-quality ratio for most photographs. A quality slider is on the roadmap; for now, if you need precise control, save out of an image editor.

Can I batch convert a folder of PNGs to JPG? Up to five PNG files per upload, with a 20 MB ceiling on each. For larger folders, run the converter in sequence — there's no daily cap on number of batches.

Is converting PNG to JPG online free? Yes. No account, no watermark, no payment required. Free for personal and commercial use, and files are auto-deleted within an hour of upload.
